Eligibility to sit the AMC Examinations

To be eligible to sit the Australian Medical Council (AMC) Examinations, you must have been awarded a primary degree in medicine and surgery:
after an approved course of study*
by a medical school listed in the current International Medical Education Directory (IMED) (online resource only) of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research, or other publications approved by the AMC**.

*An approved course of study means that candidates must be able to demonstrate completion of a clinical medical curriculum of at least four academic years, leading to an entitlement to registration in the country issuing the degree to practise clinical medicine.

**In the past the AMC has approved the World Health Organisation (WHO) publication World Directory of Medical Schools, but at present this publication is regarded as out of date and it is not currently used by the AMC for eligibility purposes

Components of the AMC Examinations

The AMC Examinations consist of:

a multiple choice question (MCQ) examination
a clinical examination.
You must pass the AMC MCQ Examination before attempting the clinical examination.

There are no limits on the time taken or number of attempts. However, the AMC may review the performance of any candidate who has not passed the examinations after five years and repeated attempts, and provide feedback on their performance and their probability of passing.

Application procedures

Complete the online application and eligibility assessment fee.
The AMC will send you a copy of the Information Booklet for Candidates and further application forms.
Complete the forms and return them with the examination fee.
If you want to sit for the AMC MCQ Examination and have not yet been assessed as eligible, the AMC office must receive your documentation (Form A and supporting documents) by the specified credentialing closing date for the examination series.

The AMC reserves the right to verify the authenticity of formal qualifications directly with the awarding institution or through recognised international agencies, such as the International Credentials Services of the United States Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (EICS).

Points to note when lodging your application

AMC Examination fees are GST free.
Include the assessment fee when returning the application form.
If your medical qualifications are not currently recognised in Australia, it is in your own interests not to leave your country of origin before your eligibility to sit the AMC Examinations or your specialist qualifications have been assessed and confirmed by the AMC.

Asa. I want to know that if i get my eligibility certificate to sit in amc exam than is it necessary to appear in exam instantly or can i keep my eligibility certificate for a year or two until i prepare well and than use it...in short i m trying to ask whether the eligibility certificate expires or something like that?

 

well, prepare well first n then apply for eligibilty. I couldnt find any where mentioning eligibility certificate expiry. So better to prepare first and then apply and sit in exam within 6 months
