I am a Sri Lankan Medical Student pursuing my Medical degree (MD) in Ukraine. I wish to be informed whether foreign nationals and non residential Pakistanis could follow their medical internship programme and work in Pakistan once they graduate from their respective universities abroad. What are the legal procedures and necessary entrance exams required for a foreign national to practice in Pakistan and to receive his/her license? As a Sri Lankan of mixed lineage, my ancestors hailed from Pakistan and made settlements in Sri Lanka during the bygone British Era and having discovered the original roots of my family I wish to serve the land of my ancestors. Is it required to have a good command over Urdu, so that Foreign nationals could interact with Pakistani patients. However this is my personal wish to serve your nation as a fully fledged doctor after my completion of MD programme in Ukraine. Insha Allah, I hope to receive a positive response in the near future.

You will have to pass Pakistan's medical license exam, Known as PMDC-NEB EXAM which is an exam consisting 3 steps 1.Basic sciences 2.Clinical subjects 3.Viva/osce. Once passed all the steps you'll be given provisional license to pursue 1 year House-Job (Intern year) and after completing that you will be given permanent license to practice in Pakistan.
All information about the PMDC exam is on this forum, use the search bar (or see in Pakistan careers section).
If you want to have a taste of Pakistani medicine (pun intended ;)) Aga khan university hospital offers clinical elective program, google it.

And oh, Its not required to have a 'good' command over urdu, it'll be convenient to have a little command though.

    Welcome Muhammad,
Yes you can pursue your career in Pakistan. You will have to get your degree and relevant documents attested by the Pakistani Embassy in Ukraine, as you will need that attestation for application for permission to sit in PMDC NEB Exam.
You will have to send PMDC Form III (http://www.pmdc.org.pk/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=htuhz1hebiI=&tabid=98&mid=543) and the required documents attested by Pakistani Embassy, in order to get permission for sitting in NEB exam. You can apply by sending your documents through DHL (After graduation).
After approval, you will have to send PMDC FORM III-A for step 1 exam, along with relevant documents.
Checklist of required documents is given on every relevant form.
You will have to pass 3 steps to get Registration, and then do house job to get permanent registration.

You can download forms from PMDC website here http://www.pmdc.org.pk/Forms/tabid/98/Default.aspx

For PMDC Exams guidelines, please see this thread and browse through PMDC exams section.

You are welcome to ask any question here, we are here to help.

    Regards

I am currently a second year Medical Student so is it required for me to register now at the Pakistani Embassy in Ukraine? In order to get through the intended medical examinations, should I start studying for PMDC- NEB from the second year, and where can I obtain the necessary study materials for the exam?. During my vacation in Sri Lanka I might get some clinical practice at the local hospitals probably after my third year and is it required for me to travel to Pakistan during my vacations so that I could acquire greater skills from the local hospitals. I wish to confirm whether a Sri Lankan could really practice in Pakistan and obtain his registration without problems. I wish to brush up my communicating skills in Urdu and start studying for the Pakistani PMDC- NEB exam with serious focus. Insha Allah, I hope and pray everything settles on my favour. Thank you for your responses and I hope to be informed more on this matter in the near future.

Well you have much time to go for this. You should acquire good knowledge and make good concepts in studies. However, you can start studying for PMDC in last 2 years of your course.
For attestation of documents you don't need to be registered however you can ask the embassy about it.
Study materials are available on this forum, there are no fixed study material though for PMDC, you should have sound knowledge of basic and clinical medicine.
Well, there is no requirement to visit local hospitals in Pakistan for pmdc exam. You should gaun good knowledge about interaction with patients in your clinical studies at university.
Yes you can build up good communication skills by communicating with Pakistani students there in urdu.
Yes you can really practice in Pakistan after acquiring registration by pmdc.

I think u should try ur country. foreign grads in Pakistan are having a lot of trouble regarding license exam and house job without pay in all cases except few in private hospitals which barely give you enough money. After getting license in Pakistan I dont think so your country will allow you to practice without passing their license exam .

The reason why I chose Pakistan as a country to practice in the future is because I personally love the nation despite its political atrocities, crumbling economy, poverty etc. as these issues are quiet common in almost every South Asian nation. I do understand that there will be several hurdles in the future if I wish to practice and serve in Pakistan but I hope and pray, Insha Allah to work in Pakistan though it is tough and may sound as a strange decision. I hope to receive the support from the Pakistani doctors and officials who are incharge of the Medical council as your support would inevitably help me in my legal procedures as I am a foreign national anyways.
