JOB DESCRIPTION:
To assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular ailments. Prepare patients for ecg, treadmill test, holter , DSE (Dobutamine Stress Test) and TEE (Transesophagral Echo) test. Monitor equipment during the procedures. Participate in a variety of specialized technical activities to include preparing digitized ECG tapes, aiding in stress test and generating reports

Electrocardiagram (ECG) Technician
- Produces recordings of electromotive variations in patient's heart muscle, using electrocardiograph (Ecg), to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments.
- Attaches electrodes to chest, arms, and legs of patient.
- Connects electrode leads to electrocardiograph and starts machine.
- Moves electrodes along specified area of chest to produce electrocardiogram that records electromotive variations occurring in different areas of heart muscle.
- Monitors electrocardiogram for abnormal patterns.
- Keys information into machine or marks tracing to indicate positions of chest electrodes.
- Replenishes supply of paper and ink in machine and reports malfunctions.
- Edits and forwards final test results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
- May attach electrodes of Holter monitor (electrocardiograph) to patient to record data over extended period of time.


Treadmill Stress Test Technician
- Produces recordings of electromotive variations in action of heart muscle, using electrocardiograph, while patient walks on treadmill, under direction of physician, to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments.
- Attaches electrodes to patient's arms, legs, and chest area, according to specified pattern, and connects electrode leads to electrocardiograph, to obtain electrocardiogram.
- Explains testing procedures to patient and obtains consent form.
- Starts treadmill at speed directed by physician.
- Starts electrocardiograph and records data, such as angle and speed of treadmill, patient's indications of pain, and measurements of blood pressure.
- Informs physician of wave abnormalities on electrocardiogram.
- Stands alongside patient during test to lend support if necessary.
- Removes recorder strip printout from machine upon conclusion of test to obtain permanent record of test.
- Edits and mounts representative samples of tracings for patient's record, indicating time of test measurement and bodily factors that could have affected recording.
- May conduct electrocardiograph test of resting patient.

Ambulatory/24 Hour Holter Monitoring
- Gather the patient’s data: name, age, date of birth, height, weight, present medication and clinical history
- Let the patient sign a waiver
- Disinfect chest with cotton balls with alcohol and instruct the patient on what to do
- Attach the electrodes to the patient’s chest
- Give the patient a diary to let them record their 24-hour activity
- After 24 hours, the electrodes should be removed and transfer the data to the central monitoring unit and do the analysis
- After the data is processed by the computer, get a 24-hour full disclosure print out and interpretations for the cardiologist to read

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Head department. The ultimate responsibility is to provide each patient the optimal benefit from the cardiac diagnostic services.

Electrocardiagram (ECG) Technician
- Performs 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) for adults and 15-lead ECG for pediatrics
- Get the patient’s data: name, age, gender, civil status, date and time taken
- Request the patient to remove anything that is made of metal
- Disinfects the patient’s chest and if necessary shave hairy chests
- Attach the leads (extremities and chest) properly and set up the machine
- Perform the ECG
- After the ECG, remove the electrodes
- Prepare the strips to be read by the cardiologist and encode the results to the computer for proper documentation and storage

Treadmill Stress Test Technician
- Inform the patient for the preparation of the procedure and explain thoroughly
- Gather the patient’s data: name, age, age, date of birth, weight, height, present medication and clinical history and encode to the central monitor unit of Stress test machine
- Let the patient sign a consent for stress test
- Prepare the patient for the test ( taking blood pressure, placing ECG leads)
- Assist the attending physician in monitoring the test
- After the examination, remove the electrodes at patient’s chest and prepare to print out the results from central monitoring unit and send the rhythm strips to the cardiologist for reading and signing of the results.
- Finally, encode the results to the computer for proper documentation and storage.
